The life of a Vice-Chairman at Asset | IB&M

The life of a Vice-Chairman at Asset | IB&M

For the past 9 months, I have had the opportunity to do a board year at the wonderful study association Asset | International Business & Management. In a few months it will be time to look back and to say goodbye to a great year filled with unforgettable memories. It has been an amazing year!

Let me first explain a little bit about myself. My name is Fleur van den Heuvel, I am 19 years old and I am currently a fourth-year IBA and third-year Tax Economics student. I have lived in Tilburg for almost three years now, and in August 2015 I decided that I wanted to do something extra besides my study.

I got in touch with IB&M when I joined the ETC in 2014, and really liked the people. That’s why I decided to join the International Committee. This has been one of the best decisions that I made during my student life. I joined almost all of the parties, and got to know many active members.

In October 2015, I saw an email that board applications for the year 2015 had been opened. I immediately decided to send my motivation letter, since I was very excited to spend a year working with fellow board members and around 100 active members full-time.

Evening Time for our board weekend!

As you can see, my weekly schedule is fairly hectic. Of course the schedule varies every week, but this is just an indication of what my week looks like.

On Monday, we have a meeting with the board of IB&M. During this meeting we discuss issues that our association is facing, our committees, and our events.

The Asset Academy is a weekly meeting with all vice-chairman of all Asset departments. We promote Asset in general, which means that we discuss issues like the Asset Member Card, the Faculty-Wide Committees, and the TOP-week.

As a board member, you have the opportunity to get trainings by companies who are specialized in ensuring you make the most of your board year. This year we receive trainings by Power2Improve, but we have also arranged a board training by ORMIT. This training will teach us more about cooperation within a team, so it will help us in working together on a day-to-day basis.

The tasks as a Vice-Chairman

As a board member, you have all kinds of tasks throughout the week. As a vice-chairman, I am responsible for everything involving active members. I have talks with members who want to do a committee here at Asset | International Business & Management and make sure all active members feel at home. We have around 100 active members and 20 committees at the moment, so you can imagine that it can be quite chaotic at times!

Next to that I coordinate 5 committees with which we have weekly meetings. All board members also have varying tasks, which for me include for example making a year planning for the upcoming year and managing some social media accounts.

Are you interested?

In January, my board year will come to an end. On January 12 we will have our announcement drink, during which my successor will be revealed. If you are interested in being a board member at Asset | International Business & Management, or if you just want to receive some more information about becoming an active member, don’t hesitate to send an email to vice-chairman@asset-ibm.nl!
